Why your team needs to be more like the NBA ๐
๐ Be More NBA ๐
(the teamwork is great and the dunk is outrageous)
Recently I learnt about an unwritten rule in the NBA; when one of your team mates goes down (usually after failing to defend the other team) you go and pick them up.
ย Your team mate falls, you pick them up. ย Imagine if this approach was applied in all teams.
When someone gives something a shot and it doesn't quite work,ย we pick them up, dust them off and continue together as a team.
Last week we talked about creating an environment for psychological safety in a team.
This is a perfect example of creating psychological safetyย - allowing people to feel safe to try things, to challenge the status quo, to fail and to get up and try again, all with the team behind them.
If they can do this at the highest level of professional sport, I think we can give it a go in our teams.
Show your team thatย you'veย got their back, let yourself be a bit fallible, explore new approaches,ย talk about failures as a team (you could even run your own F**k Up Night),ย celebrate the successes and learn from failures together.
