How to be a terrible leader in 5 easy steps โ๐ป
5 ways to be the worst leader
I realised that we talk a lot about meeting your potential and becoming the awesome leader you're capable of being.
Which is great.ย But what if that's not why you're here?ย What if you want to be a terrible manager and leader?
Fear not - just for you *|IF:FNAME|*, *|ELSE:|**|END:IF|*I've pulled together my five top tips to become the worst team leader...
1) Ignore your team, especially if they are virtual team members.ย The less you talk to them, the better.ย You want them to be demotivated and under-developed.ย ย Definitely make sure that you never have an honest conversation about career, motivations or feedback.
Bonus: Executed well, this might win you the award of highest staff turnover rate in your organisation.
2) Take all of the credit.ย Especially if you don't deserve it.ย This is especially effective when teamed with;
3) Don't say thank you.ย Never send a card, write an email or let your boss know what a great job your team members are doing.ย You don't want them to get big ideas or think they can take your job.
4) Don't make time for your own development.ย Don't read any books or listen to podcasts on your commute, never sign up to a course and don't engage with your professional body.ย You've learnt all you need to know.
5) Be infallible.ย Never let your team know if you don't know the answer, have made a mistake or are developing a particular skill.ย You want to come across as un-human as possible.
ย Build the habit
What little thing can you do today to be a terrible leader?
How will your team remember you?

Future Leaders Collective
My Melbourne friends received a special email this week inviting them to the Future Leaders Collective.
I'm lucky enough to spend a lot of time talking to leaders like you, of all experience levels, across various industries.
What always strikes me in these conversations is the similarities of challenges and experiences and the missing opportunity to bring all of you together to share our collective knowledge.
That's why I've created the Future Leaders Collective - a space for like-minded, ambitious, emerging leaders to learn, connect and collaborate.ย We'll meet each month for great conversation and inspiring speakers.
If you're not lucky enough to live in Melbourne*, you can still join in.ย Join the Future Leaders Collective Facebook group to keep up to date on other events around the country, online and highlights of our Melbourne events PLUS daily opportunities to join in the conversation virtually.
*especially if you have to live in Sydney, that's particularly unlucky.
